Brooksville, Fla. — For the third straight year, The Villages High School boys cross country team captured a district championship Thursday in Brooksville.
The Buffalo finished atop the standings in the Class 2A-District 3 meet at Sand Hill Boy Scout Reservation, posting 53 team points to pace a 14-team field. Mount Dora (57), Williston (111), Trinity Catholic (117) and Montverde (127) rounded out the top five.
VHS, who averaged a squad-wide time of 18:38, placed five individual runners within the Top 20 finishers.
Nate Burton led the way by finishing second overall with a time of 17:16.20, while David Probola finished eighth individually (18:23.40) and Allister Clarke took ninth overall (18:23.50). The duo of Aaron Spratt (18th, 19:29.80) and Roberto Rivero (20th, 19:39.00) closed out the run for the Buffalo.
The VHS girls also took third overall as a team at the district meet, with the effort spearheaded by individual medalist Annison Chandler, who finished eighth with a time of 21:59.80.
The squads will now look ahead to the Class 2A-Region 2 meet on Nov. 8 back in Brooksville.
