Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School volleyball team has a chance to make some history Tuesday night in Middleton.
That's when the Buffalo (13-12) will host Cocoa Beach (13-7) in the Class 3A-Region 2 quarterfinals inside the VHS Gymnasium, where The Villages looks to earn just the second regional-round victory in program history.
VHS previously won a Class 1A regional semifinal — then the opening round of the postseason — back in 2012, but have since gone winless in its previous five regional appearances.
The Buffalo earned the right to host the playoff game by finishing fourth in the region's end-of-season rankings, as determined by the FHSAA, while the visiting Minutemen enter as the fifth seed in the eight-team region. Both VHS and Cocoa Beach finished as runner-up in their respective district tournaments last week.
