Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School volleyball team is set to host its first in-season tournament in program history beginning Friday in Middleton.
The Buffalo Stampede Showdown will feature 16 of the area's top teams in a two-day battle, with Friday's round-robin pool play giving way to a bracket tournament finish Saturday inside the Buffalo Sports Complex.
The Villages, which enters its inaugural event with a 2-3 record, will compete in Pool A alongside South Lake, St. Cloud and Cocoa Beach. VHS will open at 3 p.m. Friday against South Lake (4-2), before taking on St. Cloud (3-2) at 5 p.m. and a regional quarterfinal rematch against Cocoa Beach (1-3) at 8 p.m. in the nightcap.
"Ever since we learned about the new campus years ago, we have dreamed about hosting large events," said VHS head coach Michele Moreman. "The Buffalo Stampede Showdown marks the start of something truly special on our campus. I am thrilled for this year's team to be part of the inaugural event."
Pool B will consist of The Rock, Mount Dora, Crystal River and Weeki Wachee. Pool C features East Ridge, Foundation Academy, Hernando and Vanguard. Pool D houses Lecanto, Lake Minneola, Citrus and West Port.
Tickets are $15 per day (per person) and concessions will be available throughout the event.
