Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School boys basketball team put together a workmanlike performance on the weekend Saturday in Middleton.
The Buffalo earned their third straight victory with a dominant effort on both ends of the floor, running away from Bell Creek (Riverview) for an 82-46 win inside the VHS Gymnasium.
Aaron Britt, Jr. led all five Buffalo starters in double digits with 21 points, while
Adyn Corbin finished with 15,
Jared Thompson added 14,
Ethan Bevis tallied 12 and
Jomar Bernard had 10. The 46 points allowed were also the fewest surrendered in any game thus far this season for VHS.
"The challenge to our guys was to bring the energy and focus, and I thought we did a good job of that in spurts in the first half and throughout most of the second half," said VHS head coach
Colt McDowell. "It was a great end to a busy week for us after a good trip to Michigan and then coming back here for two wins this week."
It was Bevis who gave the Buffalo a boost in a spot start, jumping into the lineup in place of an injured
Herly Brutus. The junior guard tallied a career-high 15 rebounds — five offensive — and recorded a pair of blocks in the blowout victory.
"Ethan has grown up in so many ways for us," McDowell said. "He's always been able to shoot the ball, but now his defense and rebounding is right there, too. The commitment he's made to becoming a better overall rebounder has been fun to watch. He comes in and puts the work in every single day, and it's good for people to see what we witness everyday in practice."
VHS (5-1 overall) returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, when the Buffalo hit the road to take on Trinity Catholic in Ocala.
