Middleton, Fla. – The Villages High School boys basketball team witnessed one of the most prolific players in its program history advance to the collegiate level Monday in MIddleton.
Jared Thompson, a 6-foot-3 guard, signed his letter of intent to continue his career at Southeastern University before a crowd of family, friends and teammates inside the VHS Gymnasium.
Thompson heads to Lakeland after turning in a remarkable career in a Buffalo uniform, becoming just one of two players (
Kymani Weathers) to reach the FHSAA Final Four in all four seasons at VHS. He also finishes third all-time in points, second in 3-pointers made, third in rebounds, third in steals, first in charges drawn and second all-time in wins.
"Today, I'm blessed and honored to announce I will be continuing my athletic and academic careers at Southeastern University," Thompson said. "It means a lot to have everyone who meant so much to me here today, but especially all of my coaches and teammates. They made the hard things easier and the good days even better.
"I don't take this opportunity lightly and I'm excited for what's ahead," Thompson continued. "I know this is just the beginning."
