Middleton, Fla. — The stage is set for what's expected to be a thrilling flag football district tournament this week in Middleton.
The Villages High School will serve as host to the Class 1A-District 12 Tournament from Monday through Wednesday at The Range at H.G. Morse Stadium, where the champion will punch its ticket into regional play.
Jones (Orlando) earned the tournament's top seed via FHSAA power rankings after compiling a 5-1 overall record behind a dominant defense that rattled off five shutout victories this spring. Wildwood enters as the No. 2 seed, boasting a 6-0 mark with a high-scoring offense that eclipsed the 40-point mark in three games this season.
Host VHS, the third and final seed to enjoy a first-round bye in the tournament, finished the regular season with a 12-3 overall record and posted seven shutout wins. This was just the second season in program history for the Buffalo, who will face Wildwood in the semifinals at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
No. 4 Bishop Moore and No. 5 Lake Buena Vista round out the tournament field as its only first-round matchup, played at 7 p.m. Monday night in Middleton. The winner will advance on to play Jones at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.
The district championship game is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday from The Range at H.G. Morse Stadium in Middleton.
