Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School volleyball team swept its season opener Monday night in Middleton.
The Buffalo rolled to a 3-0 victory over Timber Creek (Orlando) inside the VHS Gymnasium, kicking off their 2024 campaign with a victory before a solid home crowd.
VHS went the distance — and then some — to claim the first set by way of a 28-26 decision, before battling its way through a 25-23 win in the second frame. The Buffalo then closed out the season-opening sweep with a 25-16 win in the third and final set.
Buffalo eighth-grader Angelyn Hunt led the way with 11 kills and junior Viviana Toucet-Martinez had nine, while sophomore
Sharon Wiechens had three aces from the service line.
The Villages will look to make it two wins in two nights to open the fall campaign on Tuesday, when the Buffalo host Belleview at 6 p.m. in Middleton.
