Middleton, Fla. — It was all smiles for The Villages High School girls weightlifting team Wednesday inside the H.G. Morse Stadium.
The Buffalo picked up a pair of victories over county rival South Sumter and celebrated a decorated senior class, rolling to 49-41 (Olympic) and 48-42 (Traditional) wins, respectively.
VHS, which has won three straight regional championships, picked up five first-place finishes in the Olympic discipline and another four in the Traditional lift.
Madison Hume, Maya Kindle, Kayli Murphy, Lexi Galewski and Alissa Platt each won their respective weight divisions in the Olympic portion of the competition, while Kenlie Gantler, Selena Osorio and Katherine Probola joined them with Traditional wins.
The Buffalo also swept the top two spots in four weight divisions in both lifts on the day.
The sweep avenged an 0-1-1 result back on Nov. 8 in Bushnell, when VHS lost the Traditional lift (50-40) and tied with South Sumter in the Olympic (45-45).
VHS will now turn its attention toward the district meet next week.
