Jacksonville, Fla. — The Villages High School track and field team came away with a Top 5 event finish at the Class 2A state meet Thursday in Jacksonville.
The 4x800-meter relay team of David Probola, Nate Burton, Allister Clarke and Thatcher Clarke finished fifth on the campus of the University of North Florida, posting a time of 8:02.99. That mark was good for a new school record, besting the foursome's previous time of 8:08.90, which was set earlier this season.
The quartet of runners from Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach) won the event, posting a time of 7:48.08.
The finish also earned four team points for VHS — the only points accrued by its competitors on the day — in the Class 2A state competition. The squad finished in a tie for 40th overall.
