Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School track and field teams protected their home turf in dominant fashion Thursday in Middleton.
The Buffalo boys and girls each finished in first place at VHS Home Meet #2, cruising toward the top of the standings in an eight-team race from The Range at H.G. Morse Stadium.
The VHS girls tallied 196.5 team points, well clear of both runner-up Lecanto (113.5) and Wildwood (102) to run away with first. The girls team earned individual first-place finishes across six different events, splitting their wins evenly between three wins on the track and three wins in field events.
Not to be outdone, the Buffalo boys put up 194 team points, finishing well ahead of Lecanto (88.5) and Wildwood (88), who battled all day long in a tight race for second. The boys squad also recorded six individual first-place finishes, picking up four victories in running events and a pair of wins in field events.
The two teams will now rest up before a quick turnaround, as the Buffalo are set to compete at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Mount Dora Christian Invitational in Mount Dora.
