Bushnell, Fla. — The Villages High School girls track and field team steamrolled its way to a district championship Tuesday in Bushnell.
The VHS girls tallied a whopping 252 team points to run away with the Class 2A-District 5 meet at South Sumter High School, finishing well ahead of host South Sumter (87) and Trinity Catholic (61) to pace a 10-team field.
The Buffalo swept all eight individual running events — and put together top-three finishes in each of the three relay races — while also winning three individual field events. Additionally, VHS athletes also compiled a total of seven individual runner-up finishes on the day.
The Villages High School boys track and field team finished as district runner-up, tallying 164.5 team points to trail only Nature Coast Tech (236) in the 10-team standings. The Buffalo boys won a total of five individual events, collecting three wins on the track and a pair of victories in field events.
Both teams will now turn their attention to the Class 2A-Region 2 meet held May 2 on the campus of Astronaut High School in Titusville.
