Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School track and field team produced three podium finishers — including a silver medalist — at the FHSAA Class 2A State Meet on Friday in Jacksonville.
David Probola led the charge with a second-place finish in the boys' 800-meter run at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida, clocking in with a school-record time of 1:53.02. He trailed Cardinal Newman's Joe Licata by less than a half-second (1:52.54) for first.
Michael Hunter finished third in the boys' high jump with a height of 1.97 meters (six feet, 5-1/2 inches) and Michayla Griffin finished fifth in the girls' triple jump with a final distance of 11.49 meters (37 feet, 8.5 inches).
As a team, the VHS boys finished tied for 17th overall (14 points) and the Buffalo girls finished tied for 41st (4) in the standings. VHS featured eight athletes at the state meet in total.
