Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School named Juli Woulard as its next varsity softball head coach, the school announced Tuesday.
Woulard, a native of Valley View, Pennsylvania, played three collegiate seasons at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She graduated in 2017 with a degree in health sciences.
"I am just so excited, honestly," Woulard said. "I've really been wanting to get into a high school program that I saw and felt had so much potential. When the opportunity presented itself, I spoke with a few people and some former coaches, and I knew this place was for me. The girls here work hard all year round and they want to get better, and it's truly a match made in heaven for me."
Woulard was a standout for USF from 2014-16, earning American Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors in 2016, as she led the league with a .406 batting average that season. Throughout her career in Tampa, Woulard was also selected as the conference's Rookie of the Year and named to its all-conference team multiple times.
"Hustle and heart have always been the two things preached to me," Woulard said. "Doing the little things right when nobody is watching is important to me. The little intricacies to the game, the things that you maybe don't see and all the work that goes into them, those are the things I believe in and I want my team to believe in, too."
Woulard takes over the position for Whitney Cosgray, who compiled a 46-31 record over the past three seasons. VHS finished 13-13 last spring and advanced to the Class 3A regional quarterfinals, where the Buffalo eventually fell 7-0 to Montverde Academy.
"I'm really excited to see Coach Woulard take our softball program even further, and build upon the success that Coach Cosgray had here for us," said VHS athletic director Richard Pettus. "I'm looking forward to watching her lead our girls and see our program continue to thrive under her leadership."
