Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School softball team celebrated a Senior Night victory Tuesday in Middleton.
The Buffalo throttled visiting Umatilla 11-1 in six innings for a mercy-rule victory at the VHS Softball Stadium, improving to 11-8 overall on the season with the win.
Alexa Galewski, the team's lone senior, ended the contest with a run-scoring single in the home half ot the sixth inning. Galewski was honored with a pregame ceremony and recognized even further at a postgame meal for her efforts in a Buffalo uniform.
Layla Farrish had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while
Lexy Sanchez and
Elaina Gonzalez each scored twice. In the pitching circle,
Emily Thompson struck out six and scattered four hits over the first innings of work, before
Madison Jennings polished off the win with three innings of one-run ball.
VHS has just two regular-season games remaining — a pair of road contests — beginning with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch Monday night at Forest in Ocala.
