Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School football team continued its unbeaten start to the season with its first district victory Friday night in Middleton.
The Buffalo remained perfect thus far by defeating Astronaut, 35-0, at H.G. Morse Stadium, improving to 8-0 overall and 1-0 in district play this season.
The third straight shutout victory — a program record — also extended a streak of 15 quarters without a point allowed.
In a game plagued by off-and-on rain and gusty winds, VHS established a dominant ground game rushing for 194 yards on 25 carries — good for an average of 7.8 yards per attempt.
Tranard Roberts and
Kevonte Corbin each tallied rushing touchdowns, while
Antwon Johnson plowed ahead for a game-high 106 yards on the ground.
Brady Hunt also found the end zone twice, hauling in a 2-yard touchdown pass and returning an interception 44 yards for a score in the win.
VHS has now eclipsed the 35-point mark in all eight games, while the 35-point margin of victory stood as the fifth time this season that the Buffalo have initiated a running clock in the second half.
Up next, the Buffalo will hit the road to take on defending Class 2A state champion Cocoa at 7 p.m. Friday night in Brevard County.
