VHS Hoops Assistant Runs Boston Marathon

Carlos Villalobos crosses finish line short of four hours Monday in Boston.

Boston, Mass. — Carlos Villalobos, an assistant coach on The Villages High School boys basketball team, completed the 129th Boston Marathon on Monday in Boston.

Villalobos crossed the finish line in a net time of 03:53:42, good for an average minute-per-mile pace of 8:55. He hit the half-marathon mark at a total time of 01:39:54.

More than 30,000 runners representing 128 countries — including participants from all 50 U.S. states — competed in the 26.2-mile event, which began in Hopkinton and ended on the famed finish line across Boylston Street in Boston.

Villalobos recently completed his first season as an assistant coach for the Buffalo, helping lead VHS to a 26-6 overall record and an appearance in the FHSAA Class 3A state championship game. Prior to coming to The Villages, Villalobos served as head coach of Trinity Catholic (Ocala) for eight seasons.
