Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School beach volleyball team made program history Wednesday night in Middleton.
The Buffalo defeated Central (Brooksville) and Hernando to win their first-ever district championship, capturing the Class 2A-District 9 Tournament title at the VHS Beach Volleyball Courts.
The Villages opened with a sweep for a 5-0 victory over Central in the semifinals, before avenging a recent loss to Hernando with a 3-2 win to claim the district title. The Buffalo fell to the Leopards, 4-1, back on April 10.
In just its second year as a program, VHS now advances on to the Class 2A regional quarterfinals — against an opponent to be determined — and serve as a postseason host next Tuesday night in Middleton.
