Middleton, Fla. – The Villages High School boys track and field team dominated a 10-team field to place first overall Wednesday in Middleton.
The Buffalo tallied an impressive 187 team points, clearing well ahead of Zephyrhills (108) and Citrus (92) to sit atop the standings in their third home meet of the spring. It's also the third first-place finish in five meets for the VHS boys squad this season.
The effort was spearheaded by yet another impressive performance from the 4x100-meter relay team, which continued its run of establishing a new school record in each meet this season, clocking in at a time of 42.58 seconds.
That served as one of eight first-place finishes by the VHS boys team on Wednesday, which also included a win in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:32.79.
Kevonte Corbin took first in the 100-meter dash at 10.75 seconds, while Omari Hill was first in the 200 meters at 22.59 seconds and David Probola scorched the 1600-meter run in 4:20.68.
VHS also saw two individuals win a total of three field events, as Jayden Danforth won both the long jump (6.20 meters) and triple jump (12.29m), while Neven Mahan threw the javelin the farthest at a distance of 47.02 meters.
The Buffalo girls track and field team also produced a solid performance, finishing third with 111 team points. They trailed only Zephyrhills (177) and West Port (123) in the overall standings.
Iana Charles finished first in the high jump to lead the VHS effort in the field events, while the Buffalo girls' 4x400-meter relay team matched the boys with a first-place finish.
The final home meet of the season takes place at 4 p.m. April 1 in Middleton.
