Wildwood, Fla. — A strong defensive effort propelled The Villages High School boys basketball team to a season series sweep over rival Wildwood on Thursday.
The Buffalo allowed a season-low point total in a 63-20 road win over the Wildcats, securing their second victory in as many scheduled contests between the two Sumter County rivals this year.
VHS (8-9 overall) never surrendered more than six points in any quarter, setting a new single-game low for points allowed this season — bypassing the defensive effort in a 72-23 win over Mount Dora back on Dec. 4.
Adyn Corbin, a Wildwood transfer, led the Buffalo in scoring with 16 points against his former team, while
Jared Thompson and
Chris Washington Jr. each contributed 12 points.
The victory is the fifth straight in the series for VHS, who now hold a 20-18 edge in the all-time matchup. The Buffalo also swept the season series by way of an 86-42 win back on Dec. 15 in Middleton.
The Villages is right back in action at 7 p.m. Friday night, when it takes on SLAM (Tampa) in the Sun Bash Orlando event at Central Florida Christian Academy in Ocoee.
