Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School girls basketball team closed out its regular season on a high note Wednesday night in Middleton.
The Buffalo outlasted South Lake (Groveland) for a 54-52 victory on Senior Night at VHS, capping the regular-season slate with a 10-12 record overall.
Prior to the contest, The Villages recognized its lone senior —
Evah Watterson — with a pregame ceremony recognizing her four-year career in a Buffalo uniform.
"What she means to our program, you really can't put it into words," VHS head coach
Marquez Porter said of Watterson. "One thing I'm really proud of is her overall commitment to the team. Anytime I call, Evah is already there, and I don't have to question her at all."
Watterson led the way for the Buffalo with a game-high 20 points, as VHS avenged a 65-49 loss to South Lake earlier in the month.
"We really just talked together as a team and got our intensity up," Watterson said of the rematch victory. "We played as a team and we were able to produce."
VHS will now look ahead to hosting the Class 4A-District 6 Tournament next week, beginning with a quarterfinal matchup against Lake Weir on Monday night.
