Middleton, Fla. – The Villages High School girls basketball team bullied its way to a dominant home victory Tuesday night in Middleton.
The Buffalo blew past Crystal River behind stellar rebounding and a stifling defensive effort, running away with a 71-33 win inside the VHS Gymnasium.
VHS (7-4 overall) pounded the glass to enjoy a 49-18 advantage in rebounding, which included a total of 34 offensive rebounds – good for the second most of any single game in program history. The Buffalo also forced Crystal River (2-8) into 31 turnovers and held the visitors to just 29 shot attempts on the night.
Herva Brutus led the way individually for The Villages with a double-double, as the senior tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Domiya Foreman had 13 points and seven steals, while
Makayla Crews scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Buffalo will take the court once more before the holiday break, as VHS hits the road at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night to take on Citrus.
