Middleton, Fla. – For the first time in program history, The Villages High School girls basketball team hoisted a district championship trophy in back-to-back years Thursday night in Middleton.
The Buffalo ran away from Umatilla for a 71-40 win in the Class 3A-District 5 Tournament title game, capturing the program's fourth district championship inside the VHS Gymnasium. VHS previously defeated Umatilla in last year's district title matchup, while also winning in 2021 and 2013, respectively.
VHS (18-9 overall) will now await its regional quarterfinal opponent, with the statewide FHSAA playoff bracket to be revealed Sunday. The Buffalo entered district tournament week ranked No. 6 in the region.
