Middleton, Fla. — Tommy Jacques stole the show Tuesday night in Middleton.
The senior left-handed pitcher on The Villages High School baseball team tossed six shutout innings and struck out seven, leading the Buffalo to a 1-0 victory over Buchholz (Gainesville) at VHS.
Jacques, a Wabash Valley College commit, scattered just three hits en route to lowering his season ERA to 1.56. Nathan Budill closed out the win, locking things down with a scoreless seventh to earn the save.
VHS took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, after Torin Foley opened with a leadoff single to right. He advanced to second on a passed ball and then to third on a groundout, before Daniel Bitting lifted a single to center for the game's first — and only — run with two outs in the opening frame.
With the win, The Villages improved to 12-9 overall this spring. VHS is scheduled to return to the diamond at 7 p.m. Friday night, when the Buffalo host South Lake in Middleton.
