Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School softball team found itself on the wrong side of a back-and-forth affair Tuesday night in Middleton.
The Buffalo suffered an 8-6 home loss to Umatilla, surrendering a pair of runs in the seventh and final inning after tying the game just one frame prior.
VHS (10-10 overall) led 4-2 through the first three innings, before the visiting Bulldogs (9-12) struck for four unanswered runs to hold a 6-4 advantage at the end of five.
The Buffalo rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull even on the scoreboard at 6-6, only to see Umatilla swipe the victory even later with two runs of its own in the top of the seventh.
Lexy Sanchez led the way offensively for VHS, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Gracin Pulley and Emily Thompson also slapped two hits for the Buffalo in the defeat.
The Villages is slated to return to action at 6 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Santa Fe in Middleton.
