Middleton, Fla. — A strong performance in the pitcher's circle and a few timely hits lifted The Villages High School softball team to victory in its home opener Thursday night in Middleton.
The Buffalo enjoyed a 5-1 win over visiting Lecanto in their home debut at the VHS Softball Stadium, while improving to 2-0 overall this season.
Sophomore pitcher
Haylee Nobles scattered five hits over seven innings as the starter, allowing just one run and striking out seven.
The Buffalo came to her defense with a slew of clutch hits, scoring four of their five runs on the night with two outs in the inning.
Senior Lexy Dunn led the way offensively with a 2-for-3 night, while scoring three runs and stealing two bases. Eighth-grader
Alexis Swetnam also has two RBI in the win.
VHS will next take the diamond on Friday night, when they hit the road for a 6:30 p.m. game at Santa Fe in Alachua.
