Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School boys and girls basketball teams released their 2024-25 season schedules on Monday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The Buffalo boys basketball team will play a total of 25 regular-season games — 11 of which come inside the VHS Gymnasium in Middleton — and make two out-of-state road trips for games this upcoming winter.
After a pair of preseason exhibition games Nov. 12 and Nov. 14 in Middleton, respectively, The Villages will officially open its 2024-25 campaign on Nov. 19 against Elite Academy (Fort Lauderdale) at VHS. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Buffalo will then play in the first of six special events this season, when they hit the road to Clearwater to partake in the Buckshot O'Brien Classic for two games on Nov. 25-26.
The longest in-season trip in program history takes place Nov. 30, as the Buffalo travel to Michigan to battle St. Mary's Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.), who finished 27-1 a year ago and ranked as the No. 22 team in the country (MaxPreps).
The Buffalo will also play in other prestigious events such as the Battle in the Peach on Dec. 13-14 in Atlanta, the SunBash Tournament from Jan. 2-4 in St. Petersburg, and the Wally Keller Classic on Jan. 18 in Punta Gorda.
VHS is also set to once again host the 11th annual Battle at The Villages from Dec. 26-28 and the two-day Iverson Classic on Jan. 24-25, respectively, in Middleton.
The 2024-25 season schedule also features a trio of home-and-home series, as the Buffalo will host and travel to Trinity Catholic, Lake Minneola and Williston throughout the season for a pair of games each. The regular-season finale is set for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31 against Trinity Catholic at VHS.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Buffalo girls basketball team will also play a total of 25 regular-season games — including 11 home dates inside the VHS Gymnasium in Middleton — and once again play in a marquee holiday tournament in 2024-25.
Following a pair of hosted preseason exhibition games on Nov. 13 and Nov. 15, respectively, VHS will officially open its regular-season campaign with a 6:30 p.m. tip against The Rock (Gainesville) in Middleton. The first four games of the season will come at home for the Buffalo.
VHS will play a home-and-home series against South Sumter, with the first matchup coming Dec. 18 in Bushnell and the rematch taking place Jan. 23 in Middleton. These are the only two Class 3A-District 5 games scheduled during the regular season for The Villages.
The Buffalo will once again compete in the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational from Dec. 20-23, playing three games in four days at the Wiregrass Ranch Sports Complex in Wesley Chapel. This is the fifth consecutive season that VHS will participate in one of the state's largest and most prestigious girls basketball events.
The Villages and Wildwood will also renew their rivalry on the hardwood, playing a home-and-home series on Dec. 12 in Wildwood and Jan. 20 in Middleton. The two meetings are scheduled to be the first between the two in-county foes since 2021, with VHS looking to snap an 11-game losing streak to the Class 1A powerhouse, dating back to 2013.
The Buffalo home finale takes place Jan. 27 against Lake Minneola in Middleton, before the regular season closes with a Jan. 31 trip to Winter Garden to take on Foundation Academy.
