Ocoee, Fla. — Emily Frantzen etched her name into VHS history Friday in Ocoee.
The junior grappler on The Villages High School wrestling team became the first female wrestler in school history to place at districts and advance to regionals, finishing third individually at the Class 1A-District 5 Tournament at Ocoee High School.
Frantzen went 3-1 at the district competition — improving her overall record to 12-4 this season — to qualify for the Class 1A-Region 2 Tournament on Feb. 21 at Osceola High School in Kissimmee.
After suffering a first-round defeat, Frantzen battled back with three straight victories — all by pinfall — to bring home the bronze medal.
