Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School wrestling team took second in its final regular-season event of the 2024-25 campaign Saturday in Middleton.
The Buffalo finished runner-up at the T.D. Talbott/American Legion Invitational inside the Buffalo Sports Complex at VHS, going 3-1 on the day in head-to-head competition on the mat.
VHS opened with a pair of runaway victories, cruising to a 57-24 win over Columbia and a 65-18 win against Tavares. The Buffalo then squeezed out a 37-36 victory over Lake Mary — thanks to tie-breaking criteria after the visitors were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct during the dual — to advance into the finals with an unblemished 3-0 mark.
But that's where the run ended for the Buffalo, as they fell 44-34 to McKeel Academy in the event's finale.
The Villages will now turn its attention to the Class 1A-District 6 Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Weeki Wachee High School in Brooksville.
