Leesburg, Fla. — Torin Foley ran toward history Thursday night in Leesburg.
The senior shortstop on The Villages High School baseball team stole two bases in a 20-3 road win over Leesburg at Pat Thomas Stadium, setting the program's single-season steals record in the lopsided victory.
Foley swiped his record-breaking 20th stolen base and later added No. 21 in the win, surpassing the previous mark of 19 stolen bases set by Gregory Walters in 2011. Foley also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and five RBI.
Along with holding the team lead in stolen bases, Foley also currently paces the Buffalo in batting average (.532), runs (27), hits (25) and RBI (17) this spring.
VHS (11-3 overall) returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Friday night when they take on IMG Academy (Gold) in Bradenton.
