Rowan Named VHS Girls Golf Coach

Class of 2011 VHS graduate returns to lead Buffalo girls golf program.

Middleton, Fla. – The Villages High School athletics department announced Daniel Rowan as its next girls golf head coach Saturday in Middleton.

Rowan, a Class of 2011 graduate of VHS, takes over the position after Jimmy Marston stepped aside to pursue other personal interests.

"I'm extremely excited because when I saw the opening and heard about the opportunity, I felt it was such a coveted position," Rowan said. "I love golf and I love teaching, so I'm just over the moon for this chance to put them together and for the opportunity to really try and push this program to the next level."

A graduate of Saint Leo University, Rowan previously served as The Villages Charter Middle School girls golf coach. He also currently teaches fifth grade at The Villages Charter Elementary School in Middleton.

"We are very thrilled to have Coach Rowan join our VHS family and be formally introduced as our next girls golf coach," said VHS athletic director Richard Pettus. "We're excited for the future and we know that our program is in good hands with Daniel."

The Buffalo girls golf team finished 13th overall at the FHSAA State Championships last November and is slated to return three of its top foursome. Kenzi Kacanich, who finished 54th individually, Sarah Lazdowski (69th) and Deya Shaktawat (72nd) are all projected to lead the charge in Rowan's first season as head coach this fall.
