Zephyrhills, Fla. – The Villages High School football team kept its unbeaten start to the 2026 season going in a weather-delayed victory Friday night in Zephyrhills.

Despite kickoff delayed by more than two hours due to thunderstorms, the Buffalo rallied together for a 28-11 win over Zephyrhills Christian at Paul L. Smith Field.

Tranard Roberts led the offensive effort with 11 carries for 104 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown, while Antwon Johnson tallied 125 yards on eight touches – including a 61-yard touchdown reception – for VHS (3-0 overall) in the win.

The Buffalo defense held Zephyrhills Christian (1-3) to just three points, as a lone kickoff return for a touchdown in the final quarter were the only points of the night for the Warriors.

Dominic Lopez and Maguire Mellinger each racked up 11 tackles for VHS defensively, as the Buffalo also recorded a season-high eight sacks.

The Villages will now look ahead to its second of three straight road contests, when the Buffalo take on Lecanto at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 18) in Citrus County.
