Brooksville, Fla. — The Villages High School boys golf team took care of business in its season opener Tuesday afternoon at Sherman Hills Golf Club in Brooksville.
The Buffalo rolled to a 160-192 victory over in-county foe South Sumter (Bushnell), starting the 2023 season with a convincing 32-stroke victory.
Braxton Williams led the way for VHS (1-0), as he posted a 2-over-38 to sign for the top individual score on the day. Tyler Budill followed just a shot behind with a 39 and Grady Logan added a 40, while Landon Howell rounded out the Buffalo foursome with a 43.
Despite not qualifying for a team score, Peyton Flynn had the highlight of the round for VHS, as he carded an eagle on the par-5 third hole at Sherman Hills.
"It was a great season-opening match," said Buffalo head coach Wade Martin. "All of the guys felt they could have played better — a sign of good things to come for the upcoming season."
The Villages returns to action at 4 p.m. Thursday, when the Buffalo take on Lake Minneola at Swiss Fairways Country Club in Clermont.
