Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School girls weightlifting team captured a district championship for the fifth consecutive year Tuesday in Middleton.
The Buffalo hosted the Class 1A-District 9 Meet and lifted their way to the Traditional team title, while also finishing as district runner-up in the Olympic discipline inside the VHS Gymnasium.
The Villages tallied 79 team points in the Traditional lift, capturing four individual titles along the way to the championship. Madison Hume (101 pounds), Alexa Galewski (129), Alissa Platt (139) and Ava Bitting (169) each finished first individually in the Traditional portion of the event to take home gold medals.
South Sumter finished second with 75 team points and Wildwood finished third with 18 points in the seven-team Traditional standings.
In the Olympic portion of the event, the VHS trio of Hume, Galewski and Platt each once again finished first individually in their respective weight classes.
VHS placed second overall with 69 team points, while South Sumter captured the Olympic team title with 80 and Trinity Catholic finished third with 33.
With the Traditional title, the Buffalo have captured one — or both — district championships each year since the 2020-21 season.
VHS and its nearly 20 qualifiers will now look ahead to the Class 1A-Region 3 Meet, which the Buffalo are set to host at 3 p.m. Jan. 30 inside the Buffalo Sports Complex in Middleton.
