Middleton, Fla. — The Villages High School boys basketball dazzled on both ends of the floor before a near-capacity Senior Night crowd on Friday in Middleton.
The Buffalo rolled to their largest victory of the season — a 79-23 drubbing of former district rival Trinity Catholic (Ocala) — to close out the home portion of the 2024-25 slate with an emphatic win that featured balanced scoring and beastly defense.
VHS (19-5 overall) finished with three seniors scoring in double figures, spearheaded by a game-high 26 points from
Adyn Corbin and
Nick D'Alessandro's 18 points, while the Buffalo holding the Celtics (10-14) to just 23 points marked the fewest allowed by The Villages defensively this winter.
The Buffalo opened the contest with an 18-0 run and never looked back, even using a 12-0 outburst to end the opening period with a 30-3 lead. The three points were also the fewest allowed in any quarter by VHS this season.
The hits kept on coming from VHS in the second quarter, as the Buffalo eventually extended their advantage to 40-10 at the half.
A transition layup by Corbin with 5:11 remaining in the third quarter initiated a mandatory running clock for the rest of the contest with VHS ahead 51-15, as the Buffalo finished off the blowout with a barrage of Corbin 3-pointers — he made four straight in the third period — to send the five seniors out with a huge win.
Mikeen Harrison finished with 15 points for VHS, while
Allen Milow had seven and
Kyle Staun finished with six.
VHS will hit the road for its regular-season finale on Saturday night, as the Buffalo travel to Williston to battle the Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. in Levy County.
