Ocala, Fla. — Lara Braganza put the finishing touches on her dazzling career as a member of The Villages High School swimming and diving program Friday night in Ocala.
The senior Buffalo swimmer finished second in the 100 butterfly at the FHSAA State Championships – and added a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle – to earn state runner-up honors for the second time in her career. Braganza also took home silver in the 100 fly a year ago.
That performance brought arguably the most storied VHS swimming career to a close, as Braganza hangs up her Buffalo swimsuit as the individual or shared record-holder in eight different events.
Along with Braganza, VHS diver Sebastian Price made history as the program's first participant at the state meet. The senior finished 21st overall in the diving portion of the statewide event.
The boys 200 freestyle relay quartet of Aaron Nacaxe, Ryan Faso, Braydon Collins and Zion Lumpay also finished 21st at the event.
