Middleton, Fla. – The Villages High School swimming and diving program picked up a pair of sweeps in its season-opening meet Thursday in Middleton.

Both the Buffalo boys and girls swim and dive squads picked up victories over visiting Eustis and Umatilla, opening the 2026 season in dominant fashion at the VHS Aquatics Center.

The VHS boys, who went a perfect 11-0 in head-to-head meets last season, enjoyed a 140-10 win over Umatilla and a 99-71 victory over Eustis. The Buffalo girls cruised to their own sweep of Lake County foes, securing a 137-23 win over Umatilla and a 132-39 decision against Eustis.

The good news continued to come in pairs for VHS in the season opener, as two school records also fell in the first meet of the season.

Aaron Nacaxe set a new top mark in the boys' 100 butterfly, clocking in a time of 56.66 seconds. VHS newcomer Gideon Basden also set a record in his first meet in a Buffalo swim cap, smashing the boys' 200 freestyle in 1:56.66. 

The teams will return to the pool next Thursday (Aug. 27) for a 6 p.m. meet with Mount Dora in Middleton.
