Middleton, Fla. – The Villages High School wrestling team opened its 2025-26 season with an effort to build upon Saturday in Middleton.
The Buffalo hosted the 20th annual T.D. Talbott Duals inside the Buffalo Sports Complex, ultimately finishing in 10th place in a competitive 10-team field.
VHS went 1-3 in the round-robin portion of the team duals competition, before placing tenth with a 42-40 loss to Tavares in the final round.
The Buffalo opened their day with a narrow one-point defeat via criteria, falling 43-42 to Apopka by way of a pinfall tiebreaker. VHS then dropped a 53-30 decision to a deep Weeki Wachee squad.
The Villages bounced back for its first and only head-to-head victory of the afternoon, running away with a 60-24 win against Interlachen.
A 51-30 loss to Timber Creek closed out the round-robin portion of the event for VHS, sending the Buffalo to the ninth-place dual in the final round.
Once in the finale, The Villages dropped a two-point dual to Tavares by way of a pinfall in the final bout of the day at 132 pounds.
The Buffalo will now look ahead to the Bobcat Round Robin hosted by Buchholz High School, with the two-day event beginning at 1 p.m. on Dec. 13 from the Alachua County Sports Center in Gainesville.
