Montverde, Fla. — The Villages High School boys basketball team dropped a 59-45 decision on the road Friday night at Montverde Academy.
The Buffalo shot just 32% from the floor (17-of-54) en route to matching a season-low mark in points, while also committing 14 turnovers in the defeat.
Collectively, The Villages (11-5 overall) also made just 2-of-4 attempts from the free-throw line — both season lows.
A 29-22 deficit at the half for VHS gave way to a lopsided third quarter in favor of Montverde, who outscored the Buffalo, 16-5, in the period.
The lead ballooned as large as 22 early in the fourth quarter for the Eagles (7-4 overall), before a trio of 3-pointers by
Aaron Britt, Jr. eventually helped close the final margin.
Britt led the way for VHS individually with 21 points, while
Jared Thompson tallied nine and
Cam Lee had six.
Ethan Bevis also pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds.
VHS will now turn its attention toward a trip to Orlando, as the Buffalo will battle Olympia at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
