Middleton, Fla. – The Villages High School football program signed yet another one of its members of the Class of 2026 to the collegiate level Monday in Middleton.
Devonte Huff, a senior defensive back for the Buffalo, inked his name on a letter of intent to continue his athletic and academic careers at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee.
"First off, I just want to thank God for blessing me with the ability to play football and nothing would be possible without His guidance," Huff told the crowd during a signing ceremony inside the VHS Gymnasium. "I also want to thank Lane College for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to take my playing career to the next level."
Huff, who transferred to The Villages from Wildwood prior to the 2025 season, finished third in tackles for the Buffalo this fall with 71 stops. The 6-foot, 170-pound safety also recorded two interceptions and a fumble recovery during a nine-win season.
"On top of everything that he is as a football player, he's an even more so a tremendous young man and a tremendous individual," said VHS head coach
Richard Pettus. "But what he did do for us and our football program this season, he really took us to a whole new level. We really appreciate his dedication to our program."
He joins
Kevonte Corbin (Samford University) and
Brett Widmann (Valdosta State University) to elevate from VHS to the collegiate ranks in the Class of 2026.
