Middleton, Fla. – Members of The Villages High School football team competed in – and dominated – the FHS7v7A State Championships on Saturday in Middleton.
The Buffalo protected their home turf by going a perfect 7-0 to capture the Class 1A-3A state championship in 7-on-7 play at H.G. Morse Stadium, clinching the program's first title at the longtime locally hosted event.
VHS opened by going undefeated in pool play, winning four straight games to earn the No. 1 seed in the event's single-elimination championship bracket. The Buffalo boasted a +49 point differential in pool play – the best mark of any team in the division.
The Villages then went on to defeat Gibbs (23-20) and Wakulla (22-12) to earn its ticket into the event's championship game, where the Buffalo defeated Taylor County, 28-7, to claim the state championship.
