Orlando, Fla. — The Villages High School cheerleading team received multiple awards and recognitions for its performance at a recent Universal Cheer Association Camp in Orlando.

The Buffalo returned home last month from Addition Financial Arena on the campus of the University of Central Florida with four varsity awards, three junior-varsity awards and several additional achievements to cap a strong week of competition in late June.

VHS took home first-place championship honors in the Sideline category, third place in the combined Sideline and Cheer Routine, and also earned fourth place in both Camp Routine and Overall Spirit categories at the varsity level.

In junior-varsity competition, the Buffalo finished as runner-up in Camp Routine, third in Overall Spirit and third in the combined Sideline and Cheer Routine.

The VHS cheer program, under the direction of Amy Zimmerman and Stephanie Biegel, also received several additional recognitions for their performance and spirit. These honors included a total of five "Pin It Forward" recipients, 12 All-American selections and the Buffalo additionally received the Leadership Trophy — awarded to the school that camp attendees selected as the program they'd most like to compete within aside from their own.

The success at the UCA Camp event follows a third-place overall finish for VHS at a regional UCA competition just last year.
